Stations

The DFW Terminal A Metro Rail Station structure is a beautiful example of how an everyday destination's presence can be elevated by a simple and innovative solution using archtiectural membrane. The visitors of this station will definitely have something to remember.

airports

Some of our favorite projects were built for airports. The DFW Terminal D Roadway Canopy structure represents one of our most innovative solutions for tensile membrane structures and happens to be right next to one the most beautiful ones.

Boston, Florida, Ohio, Nevada, Virginia - these are all homes to amphiteathers of all kinds exclusively designed by our SSI design team, fabricated by our partner Gepszev-Spandome, and installed by Span Systems's in-house crew.

The Industry

Tensile membrane systems offer unique flexibility in appearance and function due to their lightweight structural elements and fabric that can virtually create any shape.

Innovative solutions

Fabric architecture's remarkable flexibility in design and function allows us to create one of a kind and modern alternatives for situations where conventional buildings' rigid structure lacks the ability to fulfill certain functions. Each elements of these structures can be completely unique to ensure the best efficiency and practicality. There are thousands of options in fabric, and the structural steel and other details can be custom made for each project with different functionalities. This is one of many virtues of this industry that can overcome everyday challanges that come with outdated construction solutions.

dramatic appearance

One of the major reasons to choose tensile fabric structures over any other alternative for a construction project is aesthetics. Their flexibility in structural design allows us to realize a structure according to our client's imagination also without limitations. There are certain rules that we have to comply wih that either come from the construcion codes per country or state or from the nature of these structures to ensure maximum safety and structural integrity, practicalty. The constraints are limited, and the possibilities are infinite. This industry is almost like an art form - the true limitation is set by our imagination. With a daring concept and the right team, any project can have a dramatic appearance that can turn your project into a local monument.

unique applications

Whether your project calls for a stunning facade or an acoustic liner under a gigantic amphitheater, fabric architecture offers solutions for a wide array of applications. The primary use for such structures is defense against extreme weather conditions, such as wind, snow, rain, or heat; but they are also used as interior design elements or furniture covers. Whatever the case, each type of membrane material has its place in the industry. ETFE is mostly applied against UV radiation and for areas where natural lighting is essential, PTFE is chosen for durability and strength for larger span structures, and PVC can be used for almost any application, making it the most versatile material option. In most cases, the membrane material sets the function and the steel compliments it by tensioning the fabric into a visually pleasing shape.
